Pregnancy underwear does not have to feel purely functional. The Cotton Maternity Brief is made from a ribbed sunshine cotton that is soft, warm and breathable against the skin, with a lace detail at the leg that makes it feel like something you chose rather than something you settled for.

The double-layer cotton panel sits over the bump and moves with it. The waistband has an adjustable button that lets you change the fit as your bump grows week by week, so you are not relying on stretch alone to keep up with your body. The 100% cotton gusset is clean, breathable and free from formaldehyde and fluorescent agents.

It comes in different warm tones and runs up to a XXXL, the broadest size range in the Alma Nueva maternity underwear collection. Wear it from the second month through to the end. It is built to last the whole of pregnancy.

The ribbed cotton has good stretch and recovery, and the adjustable button waistband means you can extend the fit mechanically as your bump grows, rather than relying on stretch
alone.

The double-layer front panel sits over the bump and supports it from above. It is a different style of support to The Bump Support Short, which lifts from below. If you want coverage and warmth over the bump rather than lifting underneath it, this is the right choice.

The waistband sits at a high waist position and can be let out using the button adjustment as needed through the later months. Most women find they can wear the same size through the whole of pregnancy thanks to this adjustment.

The outer fabric is 95% cotton and 5% elastane, using a ribbed sunshine cotton that has been combed for softness. Combed cotton removes shorter fibres and straightens the rest, which makes the finished fabric noticeably softer and more consistent against the skin than standard cotton. The elastane gives it the stretch and recovery to move with the bump without losing shape.

The gusset is 100% cotton. The white gusset is a deliberate design choice, specifically mentioned on the listing as making it easier to monitor discharge changes during pregnancy, which is a practical and genuinely useful detail.

My bump is growing so fast. Will one pair actually fit me through the whole pregnancy?

Yes, and this is specifically why the adjustable button waistband exists. As the bump grows you can extend the waist mechanically rather than relying on the fabric stretching further and
further. The ribbed cotton has good stretch and recovery, and the button adjustment means you get a proper fit at each stage rather than underwear that eventually feels too tight or too loose. Most women wear the same size from the second month through to full term.

Why is the gusset white?

It is a deliberate design choice. During pregnancy, discharge changes in colour, consistency and volume are one of the key things midwives ask you to monitor. A white cotton gusset makes that straightforward rather than something you have to think about. It is a small detail that makes a real practical difference.

Is this the right choice if I want something that feels a bit more like normal underwear?
